CHAS Accreditation Case Study: How Seguro Helped an Electrical Contractor Achieve Approval in Under 3 Weeks

Client Overview

A small UK electrical contractor with fewer than five employees approached Seguro for help achieving CHAS accreditation. Specialising in commercial electrical installations and maintenance, the business needed accreditation to support its eligibility for new contracts but lacked the in house health and safety expertise to complete the application successfully.

The Challenge

The contractor’s initial application highlighted several gaps:

  • Incomplete health and safety documentation.
  • Insufficient risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).
  • Limited evidence of workforce training and competency.
  • Uncertainty about CHAS assessment requirements.

Seguro’s Solution

Seguro developed a company specific health and safety documentation package, including a Health and Safety Policy, RAMS, COSHH assessments and equipment inspection records.

Following two rounds of CHAS assessor feedback, Seguro helped the contractor address queries relating to electrical isolation procedures, Portable Appliance Testing (PAT), working at height, employee training, toolbox talks and first aid arrangements.

Revised documentation and supporting evidence were supplied within 48 hours of the first round of feedback.

Seguro also arranged additional training in working at height awareness, manual handling, asbestos awareness and basic first aid to support the contractor’s ongoing health and safety needs.

The Results

The contractor achieved CHAS accreditation in under three weeks, including application revisions.

Key outcomes included:

  • Successful CHAS accreditation following two assessment review cycles.
  • A more structured health and safety management system.
  • Improved readiness for commercial tender opportunities.
  • Ongoing Seguro support for annual accreditation renewal.
